Professor K.L.Sharma (Date of Birth September 25, 1939, M.A. Psychology, M.A. Philosophy, Ph.D.) joined the Department of Philosophy and Psychology, (University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, India) in August 1963 as a member of teaching faculty and taught Psychology for ten years. His main interest was in Motivation, Organizational Psychology and Research Methods. From 1966 to 1968, Dr. Sharma was also associated with the Department of Adult Education, University of Rajasthan and taught Adult Psychology and Adult Personality. In 1969, he founded the Indian Journal of Gerontology. In 1999 he became Head of the Department of Philosophy. Dr. Sharma is Chair person of two Indian non-governmental organizations working in the fields of rural health and education. He is also an honorary Principal of Sanskar Bharti P.G. College, Bagru, Jaipur, Life Member of the Indian Federation of Ageing and the Rajasthan Voluntary Health Association.

When Dr. Sharma was associated with the Department of Adult Education, he developed an interest in gerontology, and with the cooperation of some young scholars of different departments, founded the Indian Gerontological Association in 1968. In 1971 the association became affiliated with the International Association of Gerontology. Now the association runs a day-care center and counseling center for senior citizens. In addition, Dr. Sharma and his colleagues have developed course curricula for a diploma in gerontology and nursing, and are seeking approval for the program from the University of Rajasthan.
